The Unbroken Spirit Documentary

Monica Wangu Wamwere – The Unbroken Spirit explores the search for justice by a mother for her 3 sons and 49 other detainees locked up during the clamour for multiparty democracy in Kenya in the late 80s and early 90s. Together with mothers
of other political detainees, she went on a hunger strike and camped at Uhuru Park agitating for her sons’ release.

The Unbroken Spirit is the story of a woman who sought justice for her family and for Kenya. It is a story of Kenya’s struggle for the second liberation. It is a story of courage and determination. It is a story of power for the powerless. Above all, it is the story of a mother’s unconditional love.
